Wiz's CTO Tomer Schwartz participated in efforts to patch two critical bugs discovered last week in PHP, the open source language powering roughly 70% of websites. Schwartz worked alongside OpenAI, research group Calif, and the PHP team to fix the vulnerabilities, which forced some organizations to take sites offline until patches were deployed.

On TechCrunch's Equity podcast, Schwartz discussed how AI is accelerating the discovery and exploitation of novel vulnerabilities. Researchers who found the PHP bugs warned that the cleanup is far from over, describing what lies ahead as a "Vulnpocalypse" driven by AI's ability to uncover flaws faster than organizations can patch them by hand.

Schwartz, who leads Exposure Management and AppSec at Google-owned Wiz, told podcast host Rebecca Bellan that manual patching will not scale to meet the speed of vulnerability discovery in an AI-enabled threat landscape.
