Microsoft is rolling out a Windows 11 preview update that addresses a longtime complaint about the right-click context menu. Update KB5127936 will allow users to customize which commands appear on the main menu, rearrange their order, and control which third-party extensions show up in main or submenus. Previously, Microsoft had hidden familiar commands behind icons and relegated others to a "Show more options" submenu.
The preview also introduces Cloud Rebuild, a recovery feature that reinstalls Windows 11 directly from the cloud when a PC fails to boot, pulling the Windows image and system drivers from Windows Update. Users won't need external media or a custom recovery image. Cloud Rebuild performs a fresh install rather than a repair, so existing applications and files won't be preserved.
The update arrives as Microsoft reported declining PC revenue. Windows OEM revenue fell 27% and 28% in constant currency, driven by Windows 10 end-of-support demand in the prior year, inventory drawdowns, and weaker PC market demand, CFO Amy Hood said. The broader Windows OEM and devices category, which includes Surface products, fell 22 percent. Hood stated the company expects these trends to continue through the rest of the fiscal year.
Microsoft's cloud business performed better. Azure jumped 48 percent, and Microsoft Cloud revenue rose 30 percent year-over-year, now representing roughly 70 percent of the company's 92.3 billion dollar quarterly revenue.
