TikTok announced this week that it is adding an in-app restaurant guide called "Must Eat," drawing on more than 40 million posts and comments to compile restaurant recommendations. Users can browse restaurants by city and narrow searches by cuisine, price, rating, and location.
The move marks another step in TikTok's expansion into a super app model, where a single platform handles a wide range of user needs. The company has recently added TikTok Shop, a map for local discovery, enhanced search features, games, and other services beyond social media.
TikTok Shop achieved $15.82 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, according to eMarketer, growing 108% year-over-year and accounting for 18.2% of total social commerce in the U.S. as of last year. The company expects that share to reach 24.1% by 2027.
Bloomberg reported in August that TikTok is developing a feature to allow users to send money through direct messages using TikTok Pay, which already operates in Southeast Asia for TikTok Shop purchases. Reuters reported in March that TikTok applied to Brazil's central bank for approval to operate as a financial technology company offering lending and payment services.
TikTok launched TikTok GO in May, enabling users to discover and book hotels, attractions, and experiences directly within the app in the United States. The platform surfaces lodging and activities through videos, search, and location pages.
The company positioned itself to compete with Google Search and Google Maps by integrating detailed information about places, including opening hours, ratings, and price ranges, directly in its app rather than directing users to third-party websites.
